The Oct. 23 matchup between the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors turned heated in the second half, and new details from the exchange have added even more fuel to the moment. At the center of it was Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, who took a brutal shot at Zach Edey by mocking him for being tall but lacking skill.

The altercation started in the third quarter after Ty Jerome converted a tough and-one and celebrated right in Draymond Green’s face. Green responded by shoving Jerome, prompting Edey to step in and defend his teammate.

“Don’t touch my point guard… what the fck are you gonna do?”

That was enough to bring Lendeborg into the mix. The rookie joined the scuffle under the basket and went straight at Edey, taking shots at the 7ft 4” center’s game.

“Watch out,” Yaxel said. “Fk outta here, boy. You’re just tall. On my momma, you got no hands.”

Edey ultimately got the last laugh. He finished with eight points and 10 rebounds as Memphis erased a 12-point deficit in the final 3:30 to pull off a 111-108 win.

Yaxel Lendeborg still had plenty to feel good about individually. He finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds, recording the first double-double of his career despite Golden State’s heartbreaking late-game collapse.

Yaxel Lendeborg looks forward to his matchup against Luka Doncic

Yaxel Lendeborg found himself in the spotlight almost immediately after entering the NBA. In his first regular-season game with the Warriors against the LA Lakers, the rookie was handed the difficult task of guarding Luka Doncic.

The matchup quickly turned into a fiery one, with plenty of talking and animated reactions from both players. After the game, Lendeborg made his lack of respect for Doncic clear.

"I had a lot of respect for him,” Yaxel said. “But being in there first hand, watching all the whining and complaining, I lost all respect for him."

Despite coming out on the losing side against Doncic and the Lakers, Lendeborg does not sound intimidated by the idea of seeing him again. With Golden State set to host Los Angeles on Friday, the rookie was asked whether he was looking forward to another battle with the Lakers star.

“Are you looking forward to the Lakers game on Friday?” Yaxel was asked.

“Absolutely. Absolutely. Yes, I am,” he answered.

Yaxel Lendeborg has also backed up the confidence with his play. He is averaging 22.6 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists so far, while also making history as the fastest player since 1960 to reach 100+ points, 45+ rebounds, and 20+ assists.
