Suryakumar Yadav's Instagram Story Amid IPL Trade Rumours Sparks MI Fans' Interest
The retention deadline for the IPL 2027 season has been set for November 17. Teams will have to submit their list of retained players by that date before the IPL 2027 auction, which is scheduled to take place on December 16
It's that time of the year. No, we are not talking about Diwali and the rest of the festive season. We are talking about the IPL retention deadline. Rumours regarding high-profile trades have already started surfacing. The retention deadline for the IPL 2027 season has been set for November 17. Teams will have to submit their list of retained players by that date before the IPL 2027 auction, which is scheduled to take place on December 16. There are rumours that Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya might move to Punjab Kings.
A report in India Today said that Lucknow Super Giants have shown interest in Suryakumar Yadav. Amid these rumours, Yadav, India's 2026 T20 World Cup-winning captain, posted an interesting Instagram story. In the post, he can be seen training, with the Mumbai Indians emblem appearing multiple times. Social media users were quick to point out that such a story, amid IPL retention rumours, is a sign that he is not going anywhere.
According to a report by news agency PTI, Punjab Kings are in "advanced talks" with Mumbai Indians to trade pacer Arshdeep Singh for star all-rounder Hardik Pandya ahead of the IPL auction later this month.
The script did not go as planned for Hardik after moving back to Mumbai Indians in the 2024 season as captain, replacing the long-serving Rohit Sharma.
The five-time champions failed to make the playoffs twice in three seasons since Hardik took over the leadership of the storied franchise.
Hardik's name has been linked with Kolkata Knight Riders as well following a disappointing 2026 season, but an IPL source told PTI that there is a strong possibility of him joining Punjab Kings. Rohit is expected to regain the MI captaincy for the 2027 edition.
"Talks are going on. Both parties (MI and PBKS) are keen to make it happen. Having said that, it is not a done deal yet," the source told PTI.
It will not be an easy call for PBKS to let go of Arshdeep, who has had a long association with the franchise. His exploits in the IPL have propelled him onto the international stage, and he is currently India's leading wicket-taker in the shortest format.
Shreyas Iyer has had a decent run as PBKS captain over the past two seasons. Last year, Punjab Kings reached their first final since 2014.
They had a stellar first half of the 2026 season before a steep slide in the second half cost them a playoff berth.
