Who is Orla Prendergast? Ireland all-rounder joins Gujarat Giants in WPL 2027 auction

Ireland all-rounder Orla Prendergast was signed by Gujarat Giants for Rs. 30 lakh at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction on Wednesday.

One of Ireland’s key all-rounders, Prendergast has enjoyed a productive year in T20Is, scoring 455 runs in 15 matches at an average of 35 and a strike rate of 128.89. She has also claimed 15 wickets in those games.

“I was lucky enough to work with her at the Welsh Fire in the Hundred this year. She’s a leading player for Ireland, she’s got good leadership qualities and really fantastic around the group,” Giants coach Michael Klinger said. “The versatility she can give us in our squad whether there’s an injury, whether we want another overseas medium-pace option, she can bat in the top six or seven. She’s a world-class allrounder so it’ll be great to have her in the squad,” he added.

Prendergast will compete for one of the four overseas slots in the Giants’ playing XI, unlike Associate Nation players, who are eligible for a fifth overseas spot under the WPL rules.

Earlier this year, Prendergast smashed 63 off 44 balls as Ireland registered its first-ever T20 World Cup win after 22 attempts across five editions, beating the West Indies by six wickets.
