The 36-year-old seam maestro confirmed his decision in an emotional statement on Instagram, reflecting on the arduous physical toll, personal resilience, and milestones that shaped his journey in the traditional format.
"I am bidding goodbye to the white jersey, but never to the memories associated with it," Shami wrote. After that, every wicket, every struggle, every injury, and every comeback taught me something."
Shami expressed deep gratitude to his peers, supporters, and administrative bodies for backing him throughout his career:
"Today, with a heavy heart and countless beautiful memories, I am taking the decision to retire from Test cricket. A heartfelt thank you to every teammate, coach, family member, and the millions of Indians who kept faith in me through the good times and the tough times."
