"MS Dhoni will become the mentor and batting coach" - Former CSK star on veteran's role in the franchise in IPL 2027

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Subramaniam Badrinath presented a massive take on veteran MS Dhoni's role in the franchise in IPL 2027. Dhoni is currently with the team as a player, but it remains uncertain whether he will play in the upcoming season.

CSK made a major overhaul of their coaching staff. They appointed Zaheer Khan as the head coach, Mohit Sharma as the bowling coach, and Albie Morkel and Gareth Batty as assistant coaches. However, they did not name a batting coach. Moreover, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan also confirmed that they will not have a batting coach for the next season.

Therefore, Badrinath reckoned that MS Dhoni might take on the role of a mentor and batting coach. He reflected that this could be the reason why they did not appoint a separate coach for the role.

"CSK have three assistant coaches. But there is no batting coach. I have a feeling MS Dhoni will become the mentor and batting coach. Because they have consciously not picked a batting coach. The CEO also said they will not have a batting coach. So maybe Dhoni will look into it, and the decision has been made based on that," he said in a video on his YouTube channel.

It remains to be seen whether Dhoni will continue as a player or take on a coaching role and continue to serve the franchise in the coming season.

Badrinath on CSK's new coaching staff and strategy

While it was made clear that CSK have appointed Zaheer Khan on a one-year contract, Badrinath reckoned it could be the same case with the rest of the newly appointed coaching staff.

With the mega auction just a year away, he reflected that the focus would be on looking at which players to retain and who coached them would not matter as much.

"I feel maybe all of these new coaches will have only a one-year contract. Because the mega auction is in just one year. You just have to look at these players. So no matter who you hire as the coach, the strategies will not affect the players as much. It does not look like the squad will also change much," he said.

That said, their primary goal would be to put up a better performance during this phase of reshaping the franchise. The five-time champions have failed to make the playoffs in the last three seasons.
