Watch: Lizelle Lee’s big keeping error costs Hurricanes a last-ball win over Renegades
The Melbourne Renegades defeat the Horbart Hurricanes to pick up its first win of the season.
The Women’s Big Bash League clash between Horbart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades ended in cruel fashion for the Hurricanes.
In the last over, Renegades needed seven runs to win, chasing a target of 155. Nicola Carey of the Hurricanes bowled a great over, restricting the Renegades to just 6 runs in 5 balls.
"Cricket is cruel." We thought we had a Super Over, but it's the @RenegadesBBL who claim victory over the @HurricanesBBL in extraordinary fashion! #WBBL12 https://t.co/fIrkS0rIQw— Weber Women's Big Bash League (@WBBL) November 4, 2026
With one needed of the last ball, Carey bowled a dot ball which meant the game was heading into a Super Over. Or so everyone thought.
Upon umpire review, it was found that the Hurricanes’ wicketkeeper, Lizelle Lee, collected the ball in front of the wickets, and so the umpire ruled it a no-ball, meaning that the Renegades had won, with the Hurricanes players watching along heartbroken.
This is the Renegades first win of the season, while the Hurricanes are still yet to open their account.
