Multiple New Zealand star players to miss NZ vs IND 2026 ODIs due to injury; Tim Seifert among 4 replacements named in the squad
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced that injured star players Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will miss the five-match ODI series against India, which begins at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced that injured star players Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra will miss the five-match ODI series against India, which begins at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday, November 4. The pair had not featured in the recently concluded five-match T20I series as they continue to recover from their respective injuries ahead of the tour of Australia and home series against Sri Lanka.
According to New Zealand Cricket's official statement, Mark Chapman’s left hamstring needs another two weeks of rehabilitation after MRI scans, while Rachin Ravindra’s right shoulder needs more time before he can field at full capacity.
Mark Chapman had torn his left hamstring during the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) in September. Rachin Ravindra, on the other hand, dislocated his right shoulder during a promotional shoot when he landed awkwardly on a safety mat while attempting a catch.
“Everyone knows what an asset Mark and Rachin are to this side so it’s a shame they have to miss this series. I caught up with Mark last week and although he’s disappointed, he’s working hard to get back on the field. With Rachin, his shoulder hasn’t quite recovered to a position where he could field comfortably in white-ball cricket, so with the Test series later this month we don’t want to take any undue risks," New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said in a statement.
“We’re pleased to bring in Henry (Nicholls), who is no stranger to this side, and Dean, who recently featured in the ODIs against the West Indies,” Walter added.
New Zealand have included four names in the ODI squad in the form of Tim Seifert, Henry Nicholls, Dean Foxcroft, and Matt Fisher.
Tim Seifert, originally picked for the fourth and fifth ODIs only, is now in the squad for all five matches. The opener recently scored a match-winning 93 in the fifth T20I against India in Hamilton, but has not played an ODI since April 2025. Experienced batter Henry Nicholls comes in for the first three matches and Dean Foxcroft for the last two, while Matt Fisher stays for the whole series as an additional seam option.
Furthermore, veteran pacer Matt Henry, who was ruled out midway through the T20I series with a quadriceps injury, assembled with the squad on Monday and will be assessed on his readiness to play.

Star bowler Jasprit Bumrah is not in the ODI squad and will play only the Tests, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya misses the whole tour. Prasidh Krishna was recently ruled out of the ODIs with the left hamstring injury he suffered in the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati. Right-arm pacer Nabi has moved from the last-two group into the first-three squad, and Nitish Kumar Reddy plays the opener before joining India A in Lincoln.
