Kyle Shanahan has reunited with a critical component of his first Super Bowl run, and at least one person is liking his title prospects after that move.

Kyle Shanahan has reunited with a critical component of his first Super Bowl run, and at least one person is liking his title prospects after that move.

On Tuesday, the San Francisco 49ers were reported to have reacquired DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts for a 2027 fourth-round pick. The defensive tackle had been an All-Pro and Pro Bowler during his stint in Santa Clara before being traded to Indiana in 2020, where he would notch one more All-Pro and two Pro Bowls.

Reacting to the transaction on his "Speakeasy" online show, former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Emmanuel Acho said:

"The Niners are dead set on the Super Bowl, and this is the year they get it. ... The defensive line has had the question. Alfred Collins, supposed to be there, second-round pick, he has been hurt. Mykel Williams, supposed to be there, he got hurt. ... They have shored up their only remaining weakness. ... This is a Super Bowl-cementing move."

During his Monday presser, Shanahan had been asked about what the 49ers needed to bolster before the trade deadline. He said:

"The obvious injury spots to us have been receiver and D-Line. We are getting a number of those guys back at both positions, but that also doesn't exclude us from looking to something that would make sense to help us.”

He continued:

"When you trade and add players, that might make sense for one or two weeks, but then other guys come back; now you’ve got to cut people. So it's got to make sense for all that."

Kyle Shanahan gets candid on potentially replacing Eddy Pineiro amid 49ers kicker's struggles

Elsewhere on the roster, Kyle Shanahan has refuted speculation that he is looking to replace his kicker.

During Sunday's 20-29 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Eddy Pineiro tied for the league lead in failed kicks when he missed an extra point - his fourth of the season, on top of his three missed field goals. However, during that same presser on Monday, Shanahan announced that he had not pondered whether to bring in positional competition:

"I haven't discussed it with guys. I haven't been told that we are. I actually just finished with the team and just finished with the quarterbacks, and came in here, so as far as I've heard, we don't have any plans on that right now."

The 49ers are now on their bye week. They will return to action against the Las Vegas Raiders on November 8. Kickoff is at 1:25 p.m. PT on Fox.
