Gautam Gambhir's Dressing Room Speech Comes With A Warning To Indian Team After 3-2 Series Result
After India's T20I series against New Zealand concluded with a 3-2 scoreline, Gautam Gambhir fired a warning to the team.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a riveting dressing room speech in Hamilton as the T20I series against New Zealand concluded 3-2 in favour of the visitors. India were once 3-0 up in the series, but they took their foot off the pedal and let New Zealand make a comeback and win the final two games. As the Indian T20I team now heads into a month-long break before the start of the Sri Lanka series, Gambhir had a little warning for the boys.
Despite the final two games not going India's way, Gambhir said that the players should be incredibly proud of themselves for the effort they put into the series, especially considering the quality of the opponents.
"You can be extremely proud of the effort that you guys have put in throughout the series. Winning the series, especially when you had just one day to prepare and were playing against a quality team like New Zealand in their own backyard, is a terrific achievement. You should be extremely proud," Gambhir told the players.
"You can go back with your heads held high. We wanted to win the last two games as well, but sometimes these things happen. I thought you guys have set the tone for the rest of the tour. Before the start of the series, I said that you had the responsibility to set the tone. Now, it is up to the ODI and Test teams to continue from where you have left off," he added.
With this being an ODI World Cup year, the number of T20Is is understandably going to be fewer. India's next T20 assignment is against Sri Lanka, starting December 22. Gambhir asked the players to remain in shape and prepare well and also warned them against taking the islanders lightly.
"We know that we don't play enough T20 cricket, and we've got a month off now. So, make sure we stay in shape and prepare well for Sri Lanka," he said.
"We can't take any opposition lightly. We have to continue growing as a team, thinking as a team and playing as a team," Gambhir concluded.
