Former batter Tirumalasetti Suman made a stunning remark on India's victory against New Zealand in the third T20I. The Men in Blue won by six wickets and sealed the five-match series 3-0.
Former batter Tirumalasetti Suman made a stunning remark on India's victory against New Zealand in the third T20I. The Men in Blue won by six wickets and sealed the five-match series 3-0.
Referring to India's batting, Suman reckoned that a cyclone hit New Zealand. India chased down 199 runs in just 13.2 overs. He hailed openers Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the way they batted. The duo tore the New Zealand bowling apart but took a well-planned approach in doing so. Further, Suman stated that New Zealand were lucky that the Men in Blue did not bat first.
"We were expecting a cyclone in Andhra, but a bigger cyclone hit New Zealand. For those who were wondering what it would be like if Abhishek and Vaibhav opened, watch today's game. It was the highest powerplay score in T20Is. Neither was this normal hitting, nor was it blind hitting. In the post-match interview, Abhishek mentioned that they planned to hit sixes according to the ground dimensions. This partnership was built by batting and playing the game very intelligently. Once Vaibhav Suryavanshi got out, Abhishek did not stop. He kept hitting. It felt like it was highlights and not a match. New Zealand players would be thinking that it was good that they got to bat first. Imagine what would have happened if India had batted first," he said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Abhishek Sharma slammed his fourth T20I hundred. He smashed 113 runs off just 38 balls with nine fours and 11 sixes at a strike rate of 297.37. Suryavanshi made 45 runs off 19 balls with four boundaries and as many sixes at a strike rate of 236.84. The duo added 133 runs for the opening stand in just 7.1 overs.
India continue their dominant run in T20Is in New Zealand
India have been successful in New Zealand when it comes to T20Is. They have the upper hand in the head-to-head record. The last time the Men in Blue were in New Zealand for a T20I series in 2022, they won the three-match series 1-0.
Before that, they played a five-match T20I series in New Zealand in 2019/20, where they emerged victorious and won all five matches.
Being 3-0 up with two games to go in the ongoing series, Shreyas Iyer and Co. will look to repeat the results from the 2019/20 series. The visitors will aim to continue their dominance in the remainder of the series.
