Pakistan Star Questions Board's Decision To Send Players Home During England Tour: "Not A Good Thing"

The star was among the seven players sent home before the final match of the series and replaced by a group of uncapped players.

Former captain Salman Ali Agha has reflected on the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) controversial decision to send players back home during the tour of England earlier this year. Agha, who was among the seven players sent home before the final match of the series and replaced by a group of uncapped players, expressed hope that such an unprecedented move would not happen again, saying it "was not a good thing" to send players back in the middle of a series.

"During the series, this has never happened before, and I don't think it'll happen again. Dropping players [from the squad] during the series is not a good thing, and hopefully it won't happen again," Agha said during a press conference on Friday.

Speaking further about the recent overhaul in Pakistan cricket, Agha admitted that sustaining form at the international level is a different challenge. He also stressed that there is little room for error in the current setup, with plenty of players waiting in the wings and ready to replace those who fail to perform.

"You can't say exactly how many matches it should be. But scoring runs in international cricket consistently is not an easy thing. We can only think why players are not scoring runs in every match. But if you are bringing in a youngster or if there's a senior player who has been performing for a few years, then you should give him a decent number of games. If he fails, at least he needs the time to overcome that failure. They should not be dropped as soon as they fail," he added.

Agha was recently removed as Pakistan's ODI captain and replaced by pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi. Despite losing the leadership role, Agha has been Pakistan's leading run-scorer in the ongoing ODI tri-series.

Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the tri-series final on Saturday, with Agha entering the decider as his side's top scorer in the tournament.
