Arshdeep Singh brings out his football skills to run out Bevon Jacobs for 31 in NZ vs IND 2026 1st T20I [Watch]

Team India pacer Arshdeep Singh showed off his football skills to effect a dismissal in the first T20I against New Zealand. The game is being played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday, October 22.

On the third ball of the 18th over, Arshdeep Singh bowled a perfect yorker on the off stump. Glenn Phillips managed to get his bat down in time, and Bevon Jacobs, who was at the non-striker's end, made a call for a quick and risky single. Jacobs ran hard and also put in a dive to make the crease. However, Arshdeep covered the distance in quick time and kicked the ball back onto the stumps.

His football skills were on display as Jacobs' bat was in the air, due to which he was caught short of the ground. It was a big wicket towards the back end of the innings, as Jacobs was well set.

Arshdeep Singh closing in on 150 T20I wickets

Arshdeep Singh is on the verge of creating a major record with the ball. He can become the first Indian bowler to get 150 wickets in T20Is. Earlier in the game, he dismissed Daryl Mitchell for 28. He ended his spell at 1/45 from four overs.

In 100 T20I games so far, the left-arm pacer has 146 wickets at an average of 20.47 and an economy rate of 8.65, with best figures of 5/51. He is already the leading wicket-taker for the Men in Blue in the format.

Arshdeep is also on the verge of breaking another record in this series. In 2026, he has played 28 matches and has 36 wickets to his name. He is just two wickets away from breaking the record for the most wickets for India in a year in T20Is. The record is currently held by veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who bagged 37 wickets from 32 T20Is in 2022. With four more games to go, Arshdeep can surely add the milestone to his cabinet.
