Amon-Ra St. Brown says the flag that turned heads at Ford Field on Sunday came from an accident, not intent. In a video posted by the "St. Brown Podcast," the Detroit Lions receiver said that he struck umpire Terry Killens Jr. while scrambling to his feet after a catch, and that Killens was angry when he threw the flag.
In the third quarter of Detroit’s 20-17 Week 7 win over the Green Bay Packers, St. Brown caught a 4-yard pass from Jared Goff on second-and-11 and was tackled by linebacker Isaiah McDuffie. With players unsure if the play was dead, he got up, and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt tackled him again. Killens was kicked in the stomach, fell and tossed his flag from the turf.
“This was not on me,” St. Brown said.
The penalty went against Wyatt for unnecessary roughness, costing Green Bay half the distance to the goal line (12 yards) and setting up the Lions with a first down at the Green Bay 11-yard line. Detroit scored a touchdown two plays later to take a 17-14 lead with 6:33 left in the third quarter.

"The craziest part is, as he throws me down ... the second guy, I accidentally hit the ref, like, right in the stomach and the balls. ... He grabs his flag and just fing tosses it, because he was so mad," St. Brown said.
"I'm like, 'Oh, sh.' First, I thought, I was like, 'Damn, is that on me? 'Cause, like, I didn't even mean to hit him. I, like, kicked him right in the stomach. I'm like, 'Damn.' But he was so pissd. I was like, 'This gots to be on them.'"
Packers push back on the officiating
Referee Alex Moore told a pool reporter after the game that he could not say for certain whether a whistle sounded. He said the original tackle ended the play and that Wyatt’s second tackle came afterward. Asked if that extra action was the reason for the flag, Moore answered:
“It was exactly the additional action.”
Green Bay disagreed. Packers coach Matt LaFleur said he heard no whistle. Devonte Wyatt said the same.
“It wasn’t no whistle,” he said.
The Packers (4-3) also took issue with an intentional grounding call against quarterback Jordan Love on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Detroit (4-2) won the game on a 22-yard field goal by Jake Bates as time expired.
