New Zealand fast bowler Blair Tickner produced a remarkable cameo against India in the first ODI at Eden Park, Auckland, on Wednesday. Batting at No. 11, Tickner smashed 34 off 23 balls, including four sixes, to equal the record for the most sixes hit by a No. 11 batter in an ODI innings. He became only the third player to achieve the feat, joining Pakistan's Mohammad Amir and Naseem Shah. His entertaining knock also helped New Zealand recover from 146/9 to post 185. Tickner struck one four and four sixes during his cameo, including three sixes in a single over off Arshdeep Singh, putting India's bowlers under pressure.

Before Tickner, Amir achieved the feat against England in 2016, while Naseem hit four sixes against New Zealand in Hamilton in 2025. Tickner also became the first New Zealand player to hit four sixes while batting at No. 11 in an ODI innings. The previous New Zealand record was held by Shane Bond, who struck three sixes against India in Auckland in 2003. With New Zealand struggling at 146/9, Tickner's contribution proved crucial in lifting the hosts to 185. His 34 was also the highest individual score by a New Zealand batter in the innings.

India's Gurnoor Brar eventually ended Tickner's resistance. After a brief exchange between the two players, Brar bowled a short delivery that Tickner attempted to pull, but wicketkeeper KL Rahul completed the catch. Arshdeep Singh finished with figures of 4/70, while Brar claimed 3/44 and Anshul Kamboj picked up 2/22. Tickner's 34 also became the second-highest score by a No. 11 batter against India in ODI cricket.
