Phillips' hundred, Duffy's four-wicket haul help NZ seal 87-run victory over India in 4th T20I

Firstpost ·

New Zealand produced a commanding all-round display to hand India their first defeat of the T20I series, cruising to an emphatic 87-run victory in the fourth match at Eden Park.

New Zealand displayed genuine fighting spirit in the fourth T20I match of the series against India, securing a dominant 87-run victory at Eden Park. A hundred from the magician Glenn Phillips and Jacob Duffy's incredible four-wicket haul helped the Blackcaps pick up a massive victory, taking the series 3-1.

The 4th T20I victory would boost New Zealand's morale as they would look to end the series on a high note. India, who looked to maintain a perfect win streak, would regroup and chalk out a new strategy ahead of their fifth and final meet in T20Is.

Phillips, Duffy star for New Zealand

The Blackcaps were flying high after being told to bat first, with sensational contributions from Phillips (107 off 49) and Michael Bracewell (65 off 25). Opener Finn Allen also delivered a sublime 31 off 17 to maintain their momentum in the first innings.

For India, Mayank Yadav claimed a three-fer, while Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Nitish Reddy and Axar Patel picked up a scalp each to restrict the Blackcaps at 259/7.

It was the highest T20I total against India by any team, and in reply, the visitors endured their first real collapse of the tour to end at an inadequate 172 for nine on a pitch that had a hint of extra bounce.

India fail to make an impact

India required a strong start in the chase, but Duffty and Matthew Fisher did major damage to the Indian top-order, dismissing Sanju Samson for just four, while Abhishek Sharma was dismissed at 27. Ishan Kishan was dismissed for a three-ball duck, which crippled the visitors as they continued to bat.

The middle-order delivered key contributions, with Reddy scoring 21 and Tilak Varma putting up 35. Naman Dhir scored 28 before losing his wicket.

But it was not enough for the Men in Blue to cross the finish line, as they were restricted to 172/9 after 20 overs.

The fifth T20I between New Zealand and India will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Seddon Park, Hamilton.
