Bangladesh vs West Indies, 2nd Test: Mahmud takes six wickets as West Indies extends lead
A debutant’s stunning catch, an injured opener taken to hospital and an early stop for bad light left Bangladesh trailing by 268 runs at stumps on day two of the test.
Hasan Mahmud took 6‑90 on Friday to pull Bangladesh back into the second test against West Indies.
Hasan swung the ball well on day two as West Indies were bowled out for 356. Bangladesh were 88‑3 at stumps, trailing by 268 runs, with Towhid Hridoy on 29 and Mushfiqur Rahim on 19 when bad light stopped play.
West Indies had looked set for a big total at 235‑4 overnight. Hasan bowled Amir Jangoo, who offered no shot and finished on 133, and removed captain Roston Chase with the next ball.
He narrowly missed a second hat-trick when Joshua Bishop survived an leg-before call on review, but he later took the wickets of Bishop and Shamar Joseph. It was his first five-for at home and the best ever return by a Bangladesh pacer. Mehidy Hasan took 2‑82.
Opener Shadman Islam, who scored a century in the first test loss, injured his ankle in the field and went to hospital.
Nayeem Hasan replaced him and fell in the fifth over, followed by Tanzid Hasan for 16 and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, leaving Bangladesh 51‑3. Mushfiqur, back after a finger injury, stayed in with Hridoy
