The Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries played an entertaining Finals series with both teams needing seven games to decide a victor. The Valkyries ultimately won the championship, sparking "insensitive" criticism from Atlanta fans online. This criticism didn't sit right with Jordin Canada, who slammed the critics after the Finals loss.
A fan handle shared a screenshot of Canada slamming detractors on X (formerly Twitter).
"Jordin Canada calling out Angel Reese's fanbase on Threads... I wonder how many WNBA players will want to come to Atlanta and play for that nasty fanbase? 🤷♂️," a fan wrote.
The Dream guard reflected on the fans' criticism of the players, highlighting how much of it was simply hate.
"My first time back on here since playoffs started, and sad to say that nothing has changed," Canada wrote. "Talk about heartless, rude, insensitive, etc... The majority of you need to look yourselves in the mirror fr. It blows my mind that as fans, y'all CHOOSE to say the hurtful and cruel things out loud and on here."
Canada seemed dejected by the fans' "insensitive" criticism and shared her honest take on Threads. However, her reaction annoyed many Dream fans, who showed their support for the guard and pointed to Reese fans as the main source of the hate.
"I wonder when Angel Reese is going to denounce her fans for hating on her teammates," a fan wrote.
"This didn’t play out well for you did it? Angel Reese fans are the worst. You’re attacking your own team. Wait a minute you’re attacking the Atlanta dream players and you’re being called out by them," another fan added.
Caitlin Clark fans were also quick to jump on Reese and her fan base, following Canada's remarks.
"Can't blame that on Caitlin Clark lol," a fan remarked.
Jordin Canada doubles down and slams naysayers for changing their tune following Atlanta's Finals run
The Atlanta Dream made an unexpected run to the Finals after finishing fourth in the regular season standings. They defeated the Washington Mystics in the first round, swept the Liberty in the semifinals, and then faced the Golden State Valkyries in the Finals.
Jordin Canada played an important role during this stretch and, while unable to lead the Dream to a title, showed love to her teammates after the loss. While reflecting on the Finals run, she also took shots at the naysayers, continuing to bombard critics online.
"Oohhh I forgot to sayyyy this LAST thing!!" Canada wrote via Threads. "The people in my comments congratulating me are some of the same people that wanted me traded months ago. 🤭 I kept receipts and I don’t forget. I thought I told y'all to stay on THAT SIDE! 😉."
While the Dream were unable to secure the title this term, they will hope to run it back next season.
