Jacob Duffy Breaks Trent Boult's Record In New Zealand's Big Win Over India

NDTV Sports ·

New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy overtook legendary Trent Boult, registering the best figures by a Kiwi pacer against India on Friday.

New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy surpassed legendary fast bowler Trent Boult to register the best bowling figures by a Kiwi pacer against India in T20Is. Duffy achieved the feat during the fourth T20I against India at Eden Park, Auckland, returning impressive figures of 4/23 from his four overs. Defending a daunting total of 260, Duffy struck twice in the opening over to remove Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, before halting India's brief recovery with the crucial wickets of the in-form Naman Dhir and Arshdeep Singh. His figures of 4/23 are now the best by a New Zealand fast bowler against India in T20Is, surpassing Boult's previous record of 4/34 at Rajkot in 2017.

In 51 T20Is, Duffy has claimed 67 wickets at an average of 20.35, including six four-wicket hauls, with best figures of 4/14. He is also joint sixth on New Zealand's all-time T20I wicket-takers list alongside Adam Milne.

In 13 T20Is this year, Duffy has taken 14 wickets at an average of 32.85, with his figures of 4/23 against India now standing as his best return of the year.

Duffy's four-wicket haul, combined with a superb century from Glenn Phillips, helped New Zealand secure their first win of the five-match T20I series with an emphatic 87-run victory in Auckland on Friday.

With the result, India still lead the series 3-1 with one match remaining.

Earlier, Phillips smashed 107 off 49 balls, including six fours and 10 sixes, while Michael Bracewell hammered 65 off 25 balls as New Zealand piled up 259/7, the highest T20I total ever scored against India.

Duffy (4/23), Mitchell Santner (2/24) and Matthew Fisher (2/40) then ensured India never gained momentum during the chase, restricting the visitors to 172/9 in 20 overs.

Tilak Varma was India's highest scorer with 35 off 35 balls, hitting one four and three sixes.
