Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara recently alleged that Ryanair staff at Dublin Airport behaved in a "discriminatory" and "threatening" manner towards him and his family while they were travelling. In a post on X on Wednesday, Sangakkara alleged that Ryanair gate personnel at Dublin Airport behaved in a discriminatory and threatening manner towards him and his family, citing their tone and mishandling of procedures. He described the experience as unacceptable and said it was his first bad experience in Dublin.

In reply to that post, one social media user accused Sangakkara of acting entitled and wanting "preferential treatment".

"Treating everyone exactly the same isn't discrimination, even if someone accustomed to special privileges feels slighted by it. Not recognising someone's status is just neutrality. A wise man once said, when people get used to preferential treatment, equal treatment feels like discrimination. Ryanair don't promise frills."

Sangakkara gave the user a strong reply.

"When told people like you with your kind of passports should expect this treatment, and that if we argued against that obviously disgusting comment, we would be considered a threat to other passengers and not boarded, that is not treating everyone exactly the same. It is racist," he said.

In his earlier post, Sangakkara had written:

"Has anyone experienced discriminatory gate personnel @Ryanair in Dublin? My family and I just did, and it was shocking. The tone of address, the mishandling of procedure and the threatening behaviour. Unacceptable for any passenger. First bad experience in Dublin."

According to Wikipedia, Ryanair is an Irish ultra-low-cost airline headquartered in Swords, County Dublin, Ireland. It is the largest airline in Europe by scheduled passengers carried, fleet size and total flights.

Sanjiva Weerawarana, CEO of WSO2, commented on Sangakkara's post that he has faced "discrimination in every part of the West", to which Sangakkara replied: "It is quite jarring when you experience it."
