"F**k you mean if I lose?" - Israel Adesanya checks Alex Pereira on plans to move back to light heavyweight
Israel Adesanya has expressed his displeasure with former rival Alex Pereira's plans to return to light heavyweight if he loses his upcoming heavyweight clash with Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335.
Israel Adesanya has expressed his displeasure with former rival Alex Pereira's plans to return to light heavyweight if he loses his upcoming heavyweight clash with Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 335.
For context, 'Poatan' suffered a loss to Ciryl Gane in his heavyweight debut at UFC Freedom 250, falling short in his bid to become the first three-division champion in UFC history.
Despite pushing for an immediate rematch against 'Bon Gamin,' the UFC went in a different direction, booking him against Pavlovich instead. In interviews leading up to the fight, the legendary Brazilian has floated the possibility of returning to light heavyweight if he loses to the Russian.
Adesanya, for his part, does not approve of this mindset. During a recent interview with Demetrious Johnson, 'The Last Stylebender' admitted:
"I don't know why he's taking this fight. It doesn't make sense to me. I mean, I already saw a clip of Pereira saying if he loses to Pavlovich, he's going back to 205 [pounds]. I don't like that. I don't like the fact that he's already putting that out there. Fk you mean, if I lose? Go back to Chama. All this BS, all the fugazees and stuff. Stick to Chama. Chama!"

UFC 335 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 12, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, headlined by a BMF title fight between Charles Oliveira and Diego Lopes. Pereira vs. Pavlovich will serve as the co-main event. According to the UFC's official website, Pavlovich is currently a moderate betting favorite.
UFC legend says LHW is the sweet spot for Alex Pereira
Alex Pereira is one of modern MMA's biggest stars, boasting title wins in two weight divisions and a trail of knockouts in his wake.
'Poatan' is now chasing a historic third divisional title at heavyweight, but following his setback at UFC Freedom 250, UFC legend Daniel Cormier believes light heavyweight remains the Brazilian's ideal division.
During a recent segment on his YouTube channel, Cormier broke down why 205 pounds is the sweet spot for Pereira:
"I believe that Pereira should fight at 205 [pounds]. I think that is the sweet spot, where he can ultimately max out his powers. Heavyweight's big. I think 185 [pounds] is like killing him to make the weight. I could be completely wrong, and I do believe that Alex does have the potential to become a heavyweight world champion. But there are weight classes for a reason."
