South Africa announces squad for Newlands Test, injured Anrich Nortje ruled out of series decider
Corbin Bosch, Gerald Coetzee and Dane Paterson will be in contention to replace the injured Nortje.
Anrich Nortje was on Saturday ruled out of South Africa’s series-deciding third Test against Australia due to a groin injury. The host has made just one change to its squad, with the remaining players retained for the Newlands Test, scheduled to begin on October 27.
The fast bowler’s involvement in the Gqeberha Test ended after only 3.3 overs in Australia’s first innings, when he experienced discomfort and left the field. He did not return to action for the remainder of the match, which the host eventually won by an innings and 31 runs.
Nortje’s absence leaves the home side with a decision to make over its pace combination. Corbin Bosch, Gerald Coetzee and Dane Paterson are the options available to fill the vacancy if South Africa decides to continue with a four-pronged seam attack.
