Watch - 4, 6, 6, 6, 6: Glenn Phillips Smashes 32 Runs In 1 Over; Nitish Reddy Joins Unwanted List

NDTV Sports ·

New Zealand star Glenn Phillips caused havoc on the Indian bowling in the fourth T20I in Auckland, slamming 32 runs in a single over against Nitish Reddy.

Glenn Phillips was at his brutal best during New Zealand's fourth T20I against India in Auckland on Friday. The Kiwi star smashed a breathtaking 46-ball century, following up on scores of 82 and 70 in the first and second games of the series. During his knock, Phillips' ultimate carnage was unleashed on India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. In the 16th over, the right-hander smashed Reddy for 32 runs in a single over, hitting him for a boundary and four sixes to take New Zealand beyond the 200-run mark.

The over by Nitish Reddy turned out to be the joint second-most expensive over bowled by an Indian in T20I cricket, levelling the 32 conceded by Stuart Binny against West Indies in 2016.

Shivam Dube holds the unwanted record for the most runs conceded by an Indian in a T20I over, having given away 34 runs against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui in 2020.

Phillips ultimately ended on 107 off 49, as New Zealand went on to post their highest-ever T20I total of 259/7 in 20 overs.

Reddy to Phillips: How the over played out

15.1: Reddy to Bracewell - 1: The over started off well as Reddy caught Michael Bracewell on the pads and appealed for LBW. India captain Shreyas Iyer took a review, but replays showed that there was a spike.

15.2: Reddy to Phillips - NB, 4: A waist-high no-ball from the Indian all-rounder. Phillips flicked it away through the leg-side for a boundary.

15.2: Reddy to Phillips - 2: A decent wide yorker from Reddy was hit towards backward point and the Kiwis ran two.

15.3: Reddy to Phillips - 6: Reddy missed the wide yorker on this occasion and Phillips hammered it over extra-cover for a maximum.

15.4: Reddy to Phillips - 6: A full-length delivery around off-stump by Reddy was gleefully punished by Phillips, who lofted it over the small boundaries in Auckland for a 63m six.

15.5: Reddy to Phillips - 6: Reddy came from around the wicket this time, but the result was the same. Another full delivery, Phillips swung hard, and even a top edge went flying for six.

15.6: Reddy to Phillips - 6: Phillips ended the over with a fourth consecutive maximum. Reddy mis-executed the yorker once again and the Kiwi slammed it over long-off.
