BCCI Asked To Probe After Alleged Scoring Blunder In Jharkhand vs Uttarakhand U19 Women's T20

NDTV Sports ·

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has made an official complaint to the BCCI over an alleged scoring error that cost the women's U19 team in the T20 championship pre-quarter-final against Uttarakhand.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has lodged an official complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over an alleged scoring error that it claims cost the state's women's U19 team a place in the T20 Championship quarter-finals against Uttarakhand. JSCA has sought the BCCI's intervention, alleging that a run was not credited due to a scoring mistake, with Jharkhand eventually losing the pre-quarter-final by just one run. According to ESPNcricinfo, the error occurred in the final over of Jharkhand's chase of 135 against Uttarakhand in Nagpur last week. Jharkhand were 127/7 at the end of the 19th over and required eight runs from the final six deliveries.

The team collected three runs from the first three balls, leaving them needing five runs from the last three deliveries.

The crucial moment came on the fourth ball of the over when Lakshmi Kumari was run out while attempting a second run with Eshika Bhagat at the other end.

The report stated that the batters had successfully completed one run before the run-out, but the scorers failed to record it and instead registered only the dismissal. As a result, Jharkhand were left needing five runs from the last two balls instead of four.

Bowler Kanika Negi then delivered a wide, reducing the target to four runs from two balls.

On the next delivery, No. 10 batter Isha was run out while attempting a second run. On this occasion, the completed run was recorded, leaving Jharkhand needing three runs from the final ball.

With Bhagat on strike for the last delivery, No. 11 batter Ishika Deepak was also run out while the pair attempted two runs. The completed run was credited, but Jharkhand still fell short by one run.

JSCA maintains that the unrecorded single on the fourth ball ultimately proved decisive.

Speaking about the incident, head coach Jaskaran Singh called for the matter to be investigated.

"This was the first time Jharkhand had qualified for the knockouts of the Women's Under-19 tournament, so the result is extremely disappointing," Jaskaran said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

"Had this been a league game, the situation may have been different. For players in particular, tournaments like these are extremely important.

"We hope the matter will be looked into so that we can prevent such errors again. We even reviewed the video of the final over within the team before lodging a complaint, and it was very clear that the scorers had made a mistake. We immediately brought it to the attention of match referee Anupa Narvekar after the presentation," he added.
