Axar Patel takes sharp catch off own bowling to remove in-form batter in NZ vs IND 2026 3rd T20I [Watch]

India all-rounder Axar Patel produced a sharp caught-and-bowled dismissal to remove in-form New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips in the third T20I of the five-match series. The match is underway on Tuesday, October 27, in Wellington.

The wicket fell on the final ball of the 12th over of the hosts' innings. Axar Patel bowled a fuller delivery outside off, and Phillips attempted to loft it over cover. However, he made contact with the inner half of the bat, allowing the spinner to complete a sharp catch to his left.

Playing his 100th T20I, Glenn Phillips was dismissed for 17 off 14 deliveries, hitting three fours. It was his first failure to register a half-century in the series. His dismissal left New Zealand at 123/3 at the end of 12 overs.

New Zealand maintain scoring momentum despite Glenn Phillips' dismissal

After being put in to bat, New Zealand openers Tim Seifert and Finn Allen managed just four runs in the first eight balls before Arshdeep Singh dismissed the former for two off six deliveries. Allen then joined forces with Daryl Mitchell to stitch together an 86-run partnership off 43 balls for the second wicket.

Allen departed for 40 off 25 deliveries, smashing five sixes, as Nitish Kumar Reddy dismissed the right-hander in the ninth over, courtesy of a brilliant catch by Naman Dhir. Mitchell brought up his half-century off 26 balls with a six on the final delivery of the 11th over. Glenn Phillips failed to convert his start, falling for 17 off 14 balls in the 12th over.

Bevon Jacobs then walked in at No. 5 and maintained the scoring momentum alongside Mitchell. At the time of writing, New Zealand were 165/3 after 17 overs, with Mitchell batting on 71 off 42 deliveries and Jacobs on 26 off 15.
