"When other players dismiss Kohli, his fans abuse them" - LSG pacer recalls interesting experience after claiming RCB legend's wicket
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Prince Yadav recalled an interesting experience after claiming the wicket of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli in the IPL.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Prince Yadav recalled an interesting experience after claiming the wicket of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) legend Virat Kohli in the IPL. He did so in the 2026 season in a match between the two sides in Lucknow.
RCB were chasing 213, and Prince Yadav bowled Virat Kohli for a two-ball duck early on with a beauty of a delivery. Players who dismiss Kohli usually face abuse from fans on social media. However, the LSG pacer revealed that he received appreciation and love even from RCB fans.
"I did not open my social media. My brother did. When I spoke to him, he told me that when other players dismiss Kohli, his fans abuse them. But for me, there was a soft corner. I did not get abused. There were only good things being said, like 'being an RCB fan, very well bowled, what a delivery' and such things. I do not use Instagram," he said on a podcast with former India cricketer Aakash Chopra.
He also revealed the conversation that he had with his father after picking up the huge wicket of Virat Kohli. His father congratulated him but asked him to focus on the next game. Similarly, he described how his father always wanted him to do a level better at each stage.
"I spoke to my dad. He told me that the match is done and gone. You did well, but now focus on the next game. He does not get overexcited. When I was playing IPL, he would say so what? You're not playing domestic for Delhi yet. When I did that, he said you're not playing IPL yet. When I played IPL, he said he would accept it when I played for India."
Prince Yadav went on to pick three wickets in that game, also dismissing Devdutt Padikkal and Jitesh Sharma. LSG won the match by a close margin of nine runs.
LSG pacer on what his father wanted him to become
Prince Yadav revealed that his father wanted a completely different career path for him. He wanted his son to work in the Railways or in the Police force. The LSG pacer stated that his father was not convinced of a future in cricket and that he even gave a physical test for the Delhi Police, which he cleared.
"My dad wanted me to join the railways or police. He liked cricket. But he thought, everyone plays, what will I do, how will I make a future, there is so much competition. I was only playing tennis and not leather that is why he was not convinced. I filled out the form for the physical for Delhi Police because of him, and I cleared it. But there was a written exam after that, and I did not give it," he said.
Prince Yadav's decision turned out to be the right one in hindsight, as he not only went on to play in the IPL, making his debut with LSG, but also made his international debut soon after. So far, Prince has played three ODIs and 11 T20Is, and is currently with the Indian team in New Zealand.
