A legendary AEW star shockingly relinquished his title following an unfortunate development. The move came just a day before Dynamite: Blood and Guts 2026.

The star in question is the irrepressible Mistico. The Mexican luchador, who's been signed with All Elite Wrestling since 2023, has earned legendary status in pro-wrestling for his immense body of work in Mexican Lucha Libre. The former AEW World Trios Champion has also been tearing it up in NJPW this year. At Wrestling Dontaku 2026, the 43-year-old won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship alongside El Desperado. Unfortunately, Desperado recently sustained an injury, and Mistico has now had to vacate the titles. The move came just a day before Dynamite: Blood and Guts 2026, where Místico is not currently scheduled to compete.

Místico and Desperado entered the Super Junior Tag League, but before the tournament even began, Desperado was injured, leaving Místico to find a new tag partner. He chose Masatora Yasuda. Taiji Ishimori and Robbie X eventually won the tournament. Today at NJPW Power Struggle, Místico came out carrying both titles, vacated them, and announced he would find a new partner and reclaim the championships. Ishimori then proposed a 3-Way Match for the vacant titles at Wrestle Kingdom featuring him and Robbie X, Ichiban Sweet Boys, and Místico with his new partner.

Mistico wants to face Jon Moxley in AEW

Mistico's presence in All Elite Wrestling is periodic, but his impact is unquestionable. In that vein, the 43-year-old recently shared big plans for his career in the Jacksonville-based promotion during an interview with Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. The Mexican luchador said he wants to compete for the AEW World Championship and also expressed interest in facing reigning Continental Champion Jon Moxley.

"He would love to have a chance at the [All Elite Wrestling] world heavyweight title. People like [Jon] Moxley, people like [Will] Ospreay, people like @The_MJF ." [H/T- @istomatoafruit on X]

Interestingly, the Purveryor of Violence has never faced the Prince of Silver and Gold one-on-one on All Elite Wrestling programming. They have competed against one another in multi-person bouts. It will be interesting to see if Tony Khan matches them up for singles action at some point.
